Phlebectasia of left Internal Jugular vein

The left internal jugular vein appears moderately dilatated as seen in these B mode and color Doppler images of the neck. This is a not so uncommon finding during routine ultrasound imaging of the neck usually for thyroid related conditions. At 16 mm. maximal diameter the left IJV appears moderately distended. The patients in such cases are usually asymptomatic.
